Many senior citizens shy away from regular exercise because they fear that working out will lead to injury or discomfort. However, studies show the opposite is true. Moderate physical exercise is extremely beneficial for adults of all ages, including those 60 and older. While modifications need to be made for some seniors, exercise should not be dismissed entirely because of age or ability level. Some of the benefits of regular exercise for senior citizens include:
Aids in weight loss
Helps maintain a healthy weight as metabolism naturally slows with age
Increases muscle mass
Improves immune function
Lowers blood pressure
Improves digestive functioning
Lowers risk of chronic conditions such as, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, obesity, hear disease, osteoporosis and colon cancer
Improves balance

SilverSneakers
The SilverSneaker program is offered through several participating insurance providers. Participation is based on meeting certain eligibility
requirements. As a part of your membership, you are eligible to participate as a full privilege member as well as take advantage of our SilverSneaker specific programs below.

SilverSneaker Eligibility Requirements
- Must be medicare eligible (typically 65 or older)
- Have an eligible card from a participating insurance provider. These providers include: HOP Medical Plan and Highmark Freedom or Security Blue.
- If you believe your plan is included but not listed, please stop by our Welcome Center to verify eligibility.

Active Older Adult Activities
Muscular Strength and Range of Movement
Move to music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength and range of movement. Handheld weights, elastic tubing and a ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Free for all senior members and SilverSneakers. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Cardio Circuit
Upper body strength work with hand held weights, elastic tubing and a ball are alternated with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation exercises. Free for all senior members and SilverSneakers. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-10:00 a.m.

Senior Water Exercise
A light cardio workout, this class offers shallow water moves that will increase flexibility, strength and agility. This class is gentle on the joints and fun for all ages. No swimming ability is required and a variety or aquatic equipment may be used. Free to all senior members and SilverSneakers. Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-3:00p.m.

Ping Pong, Billiards and Air Hockey
Ping pong, billiards table games and air hockey are available in the Recreation Center.

Recreation Center
Active older adults are invited to stay and play or socialize before or after their morning workout. Ask about organizing various leagues like billiards, table tennis, Wii bowling and more. Look for information on these activities to come. In the evenings, the room is available to our teens and to families (with children 8 years and older) on Sundays.
