Teen Nights - F.A.Q. - Teen Center

The YMCA of Indiana County encourages all 7th graders who live in Indiana County to stop by the Y for their free membership. Getting your free membership is easy:

1. Bring your current report card or a report card from last year, school ID, or other letter from the school indicating that you are a 7th grader.
2. Bring a parent or guardian.
3. Complete the membership application.
4. Receive your membership card!

The Y has a long standing tradition of creatively adapting to meet the needs of the community. We are proud to launch the 7th Grade Membership Initiative as a way to better engage and connect with our youth.

The Y is a great place to hang out, make friends, join a club or get involved!

FAQ for 7th Grade Initiative

How long is the 7th Grade Membership good for?

Memberships are good for the 2011-2012 school year and will terminate at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year based on the Indiana Area School Districts start date. The membership will be valid during the summer months.

Who is funding/ paying for the membership?

The memberships are a program of the YMCA of Indiana County and may be funded by our Annual Strong Kids Campaign.

Why is the Y doing this?

Our goal is to provide a healthy, fun and safe environment to all 7th graders. The program is designed to give kids a place to go to have fun while also participating in long-lasting healthy habits and social interaction. 7th graders are faced with countless decisions, some causing them to grow up sooner than they maybe should. The Y is a great place to make new friends, meet old friends and get involved.

How do we prove they are a 7th grader?

Students will need to provide a report card, student ID or other proof they are currently in 7th grade. Last year’s 6th grade report card is acceptable proof as is a letter welcoming 7th graders to the new school etc.

2. A parent or guardian must complete the application for membership and sign the membership waiver.

What programs, activities etc. are available to the 7th graders?

The new teen center is available after school and on Saturdays. Additionally there are open gym and rec. swim times available. The Y program staff is developing other programming for 7th graders including wellness, fitness, the arts and Clubs.

What 7th graders are eligible?

7th graders are eligible if they reside in Indiana County. Public, Private and Home Schooled 7th graders are encouraged to accept the membership.

Can the 7th grade membership be applied toward a family membership?

No, the value of the youth membership may not be applied to other services or goods. Additionally there is no credit offered for accepting the membership later in the school year.

Do they get 4 free visitors/year?

Each YMCA Membership is provided 4 guest passes per year to allow friends and family the opportunity to try the Y for free. These 4 free visitor passes will be honored with the 7th grade memberships provided all rules and policies are adhered to.

Is teen center available during the days there is no school?

The teen center hours will vary on days there is no school. The space is designated for Adult use most days until 3 PM. The Y also offers a FUNDAY program for school age children when there is no school. Both of these groups will have scheduled time in the teen center when there is no school.

Sat          9:00- 6:00
